Chelsea Loanee Andreas Christensen Named Monchegladbach Player of the Year Ahead of Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka

Chelsea Youngster Andreas Christensen, who spent the 2015/16 campaign on loan at Borussia Moenchengladbach, was very impressive throughout the season and he has been voted the Bundesliga club’s Player of the Season. The 20-year-old central defender clearly finished ahead of second placed Granit Xhaka, who has recently joined Arsenal, with 54% of the vote to his 15%.

He played 39 games and scored three goals, and helped his loan club qualify for next season’s Champions League with a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga, having competed in the European competition last season with Manchester City, Juventus and Sevilla the opponents in a tough group stage.

According to the Monchegladbach’s official site, supporters were impressed by the centre-back’s ‘uncompromising’ style and ability to build play from the back.

Christensen is a product of the Chelsea Academy and has won the Under-21 Premier League, the UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup, and he made his Chelsea first-team debut in 2014/15 and his senior Denmark debut last summer.
