Arsenal Centre-backs Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi are Better than Chelsea's Cahil and David Luiz Combined - According Stats

Does Per Mertesacker have the pace? Is Gabriel intelligent enough? Do Calum Chambers and Rob Holding have the maturity and experience required? When it comes to who should partner Laurent Koscielny at the back for Arsenal, it’s a case of questions, questions, questions. But it seems Shkodran Mustafi might be the answer.

In Arsenal’s first three games of the season, before Mustafi arrived, five Premier League goals were conceded. In the three game since the German joined, they’ve conceded two. That stat alone shows something’s improved at the back but the duo’s performance in the 3-0 win over Chelsea was incredibly promising for Arsenal fans.
Up against one of the best strikers in the world in the shape of Diego Costa, they kept Chelsea’s bullish centre-forward incredibly quiet. In fact the Spain international didn’t have a single shot on target.

We’ve collected together their key defensive stats from the match at the Emirates which show just how impressive they really were…

To highlight just how impressive those figures are, we combined the same stats of Gary Cahill and David Luiz and they reveal the Arsenal defenders were either equal or better individually than the Chelsea duo in just about every department.
