Fans Sent Death Threats to Real Madrid Star James Rodriguez for Pulling Out of Colombia Squad

Real Madrid and Colombia star James Rodriguez has received death threats, his mother has revealed. Rodriguez pulled out of Colombia’s squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifying matches against Paraguay and Uruguay with a calf complaint and has since been harassed with death threats on social media.

A group called ‘Legion Holk’ have sent the player and his mother chilling messages accompanied by pictures of weaponry.

The messages seem to be in response only to his withdrawal from the Colombia squad, and perceived average performances on the field of play.

The Tweeting message translates as ‘I am getting ready to go by James Rodriguez’ while Tweets sent from the now suspended @FrekeMan account read:

‘I am traveling to your house, coming armed. Say goodbye to everything you love #HolkLegion is watching over you.’

‘I see tomorrow all these people crying because I killed a mediocre player.’

In addition to this, the hashtag #JamesVerguenzaNacional has now gone viral, translated as ‘James national shame.’

Rodriguez’ mother Pilar Rubio Gomez revealed several threatening tweets with the accompanying message:

‘What happens to people? Crazy! Writing me directly saying it is better to see him dead.’

Bolivian football journalist Juan Pasten later shared a picture received by Rodriguez’ mother with the Tweet: ‘James Rodríguez threatened in Socialmedia by group Legion Holk. The mother of the footballer received messages next to a box of weapons.’
