Chelsea's legend and former manager is set to take over the reign at Villa park against next season in championship. With the reports spreading every where, it looks like Roberto Di Matteo will be the man at the helm of Aston Villa’s first attempt to get back to the Premier League.
Villa was relegated for the first time in the PL era this season after Remi Garde couldn’t pull Tim Sherwood‘s early season struggles out of the drop zone.
Now in the Championship with new investors and a brand new challenge, Villa looks set to turn to Di Matteo, who last guided Schalke and made his name leading West Brom to promotion and Chelsea to the 2011-12 FA Cup and UEFA Champions League titles.
Sky Sports says that Di Matteo had been interviewing with Lazio, but is the preferred candidate for new Villa owner Tony Xia.
Di Matteo has managed big clubs with big expectations but also has the benefit of having led a promotion campaign. This would be a strong pick up for the Midlands outfit.
If Di Matteo does it and bring back Aston Villa to the Premisrship, it would be the second time he will achieve that in his career having lead Westbrom to promotion of recent.
